Irish Wolfhound

Original Works of art

Group: Hounds
Breed Family: Hound

The early history of the Irish Wolfhound is related to that of the Scottish Deerhound. One of the largest of all the breeds, it became established in the dog show world from 1863 after a Captain George A. Graham steadfastly worked for some twenty-three years to establish and improve the breed. It was under his supervision that the first breed standard was written, and it is more or less still being used today.
