Alfred Dubucard |
(French, 1828 -1894 ) |
Alfred Dubucand born in Paris, France, was a proficient Animalier sculptor of the 19th century. He produced extremely well modeled groups of animals and equestrian subjects. Dubucard studied art under Lequien and was a student of Antoine Louis Barye. His casts have exceptional details and finish. A few of his bronzes are patinated in the multi colored style as his teacher Barye and may have been cast in Baryes studio. His sculptures are modeled in a very realistic way with attentions to details and ability to capture movement of the animal.
Dubucand made his debut in 1867 at the Salon with a wax model of Dead Pheasant and continued exhibiting at the Salons annual exhibitions until 1883. Dubucand was fascinated by people and animals of North Africa and captured many scenes of wild and domestic animals of that area. |
