MAUD EARL |
The Master of Purebred Dog Portraits |
Maud Earl is widely known as the quintessential painter of purebred dogs. Painting virtually every breed of dog that was known in Victorian England, her regular exhibitions in London were widely attended and extensively reviewed. One such exhibition was Terriers and Toys, of 1903. It was accompanied by a portfolio of 25 photogravures. A complete portfolio is in the permanent collection of the AKC Museum of The Dog in Saint Louis.
The William Secord Gallery is fortunate in recently acquiring an almost-complete portfolio of individual photogravures. They are now available for purchase, including rare depictions of such breeds as Toy Spaniels, Brussels Griffons and Skye Terriers, owned by some of the most prominent English dog fanciers of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Whether you buy one or a group, they make a perfect Christmas gift for any dog lover!
